2008-09 Southwind High School Band
WELCOME LETTER TO THE BAND
Welcome to the ranks of the Southwind High School Jaguar Band!
I want to welcome you to the Southwind High School Band. This is an opportunity for you establish a legacy that will carry on throughout time. Here at Southwind, we will strive to maintain a performance standard of excellence while affording each individual with an opportunity for growth.
The band program requires students that are dedicated, determined, and optimistic. We need young musicians that are dedicated to the performance of good music to the maximum of their abilities. We need band members that are dedicated to their fellow band members, Southwind High School and to the community represented. We need band members determined to work hard and long to become a part of this disciplined group, and to persevere when things get rough. Determined to make their family proud of all they have accomplished as part of this special group. Optimistic that by hard work and practice they someday can be the leaders. Optimistic that someday when heads turn as the Southwind Jaguar Band marches by, they have gained the respect of the spectators. Optimistic that they will be part of one of the best bands in the country.
The marching style is corps-oriented combined with a dynamic woodwind and brass line, progressive multi-percussion section, and accomplished color guard. The music, drills, and routines for every halftime show are designed for the entertainment value and to challenge each band member. In addition to football games, the Jaguar Band will perform at pep rallies, parades, concerts, contests, and special engagements. The band is committed to serve Southwind High School, the surrounding community, and the state of Tennessee. Members are expected to represent the Jaguar Band and Southwind High School in a dignified manner at All times.
The Jaguar Band Handbook outlines in detail virtually all organizational and performance aspects of the band. It is also intended to provide information regarding policies and programs for the purpose of promoting pride, spirit, and unity within the Southwind Jaguar Band.
